Turbo Technics are the leading manufacturer of Vibration Sorting Rigs, known as VSR High Speed Core Balancing Machines. With a high degree of balancing accuracy, these machines have rapidly become the industry standard throughout the world, with many clients in the UK and major sales in the USA, India, and China.

Turbochargers require balancing to fine limits, and this cannot be achieved by the balancing of individual components alone. Assembly tolerance stack-up means that even carefully balanced components, when assembled in a group, can give a cumulative imbalance, which is unacceptable. Geometric errors in shaft straightness, squareness of faces etc. can also considerably influence the total assembly. The problem is exaggerated when parts are re-used in reconditioned units.

Turbo Technics design and manufacture their own Vibration Sorting Rigs, known as VSR High Speed Core Balancing Machines to solve these problems. “Core” Balancing is the method required by turbo manufacturers to ensure that a repaired turbocharger meets high quality standards

TURBO TECHNICS VSR Mk IV-P

This is the latest High-speed core balancing machine for measuring and correcting imbalance of turbocharger core assemblies.

An air-driven slave turbine housing is used to drive the core (CHRA) at rotational speeds up to 250,000 rev/min (depending upon model size). The CHRA can be balanced over the complete speed range, typically covering first and second vibration modes.

The machine is equipped with a computer for data analysis and display. Turbo Technics' software records data in real time, displaying a two-dimensional speed/vibration graph and imbalance position indicator. The computer also operates as a PLC, controlling a number of machine functions.

A hand operated air cutter is used for making balance cuts without removing the CHRA. The machine includes a safety interlock mechanism and fail-safe oil supply sensing.

The machine is supplied, built and tested, from our Northampton, U.K. production facility and includes the following features:

• Speed capability to 250,000 rev/min
• Quick-change turbine housing adapters
• Supersonic air delivery
• Magnetic speed and phase measuring system
• Turbo Technics Phase 3 computer with touch-screen control
• Turbo Technics operating software
• Template selection of operating parameters
• Choice of standard or user-defined templates
• Automatic impeller shroud cover
• Oil tank and 5 stage filtration system
• Oil temperature control
• Integral air exhaust silencer
• Data storage onto hard disk drive & 3½ floppy drive
• Safety cabinet with protective locking
• 24 Volt electrical system
• Work table area
• Storage cabinet 1 area
• Large selection of tooling available including value packs
• Complete documentation and backup software

TURBO TECHNICS VSR Mk III-P

In 1999, Turbo Technics introduced the VSR Mk3 "Core" balancing machine, following 15 years production of the previous Mk2 machine. Within months, its clever design and many unique features became the talking point of the turbocharger industry. Following worldwide acclaim, and the only VSR machine to meet full factory approval by GARRETT, KKK (3K Borg Warner) and IHI, the machine soon became regarded as the excepted "Industry standard" for all turbocharger repair businesses and aftermarket re-manufacturers.

Within the first few years of production, virtually every Garrrett passenger car distributor had a Turbo Technics VSR machine. Now these machines are used and approved by most of the world’s turbo re-manufacturers and are also in use by several OE turbo manufacturers too. With sales throughout the UK, and across the world in the USA, India and China, the company has confirmed its position as the leading manufacturer of High Speed VSR Core Balancing Machines.

Following many years in production, Turbo Technics launched the VSR Mk4 in 2004. So why is the Turbo Technics VSR Mk4 machine so much better than other rival machines?
